When I was writing this last post on R., thinking on the abhorrence I felt about his speech before the conclave started, I had an intuition: Pope J.P.-II, despite his charisma and the love and joy he irradiated, despite his progressive political and social doctrine, was very conservative inside the Church, no doubt as a result of his life in Nazi-occupied and later Communist Poland. This very conservative, counter-productive and in many ways harmful side was so overshadowed by the strength of his personality, his luminosity, that it became his shadow-side, the part of him not recognized, or that he denied. He could not see this part of his own darkness, or more accurately, of his papacy's darkness. That Razinger has Pluto over J.P.-II death-Cross, now that you bring this up (I was not aware of this relationship), is an indication of what I felt. I wrote: "He is the shadow, the negative side of John Paul II..." (R. plutonian Moon opposition J.P.-II's charismatic Sun). The press has reported that J.P.-II took care in the years before his death of securing that the right people became cardinals and were given the power in the Church. Unaware of the dark or harmful effect (hence the expression "the shadow") of many of his policies, he wanted to make sure that they would perdure after his death. Cardinal R. (I hate to admit that he is now "the Pope" --I strongly dislike him, and this is very sad... I am sure many Latin Americans feel the same) seems to incarnate the distorted, negative, polarized shadow of J.P.-II.. The Plutonian relationship you have noted gives strength to this view, something like: "Look! I am your shadow, you created me!" At least, again if the time of birth is correct, the lunar/plutonian, or lunar-crippled side of R. Allow me to explain this better. An exact Moon/Pluto square is compulsive, with a tendency to extremes in matters of the Moon (children, birth, relationships, women, reproduction, human vulnerability --the areas in which the Church today is in conflict or lacking) and can manifest in different or opposite ways. It basically means a denial of the lunar basic necessities in childhood, a severing from the mother or an overbearing non-mothering mother. It means severe trauma, a (symbolical or literal) destruction of the family and living childhood in "survival" mode. In adulthood, this will show as an acute over-sensitivity to the lunar needs. If lived creatively, it can be a person with an exceptional ability to generate catharsis in others and to deal with the raw, deepest compulsions of human existence. Negatively, the person recoils into radicalism and fundamentalisms as compensation, leaving the devastating emotional hunger intact and controlling the life. In R.'s case, the exact Moon-Pluto square is an indication that he found in the Catholic Church the "mothering" mother he never had, so he clings to her as a frightened little child to his mother. Note that Pluto by transit conjunct the Moon (sidereal) was exact between October 1977 and August 1978, just a few months after he was elected cardinal (June 1977), and a few months before the election of John Paul II, who quickly made him his right hand in matters of doctrine. This is not a "good" or "normal" Moon, but a cold, inflexible, and detached Moon living on the defensive against fear and hunger and the need for refuge. So it is pretty obvious to me that his birth chart is pertinent, along with other charts that can or should be taken into account, but as I said, in my opinion, his natal Moon/Pluto exact square is the best explanation of those policies. Ratzinger and John Paul II could be seen as 2 aspects or faces of the same "Pope" or papacy, whose continuity was assured by electing R. as Pope. The obvious differences between the 2 can be found in their birth charts (as well as in John Paul II's death chart), and particularly in the position of the natal Moon. Ratzinger's birth chart describes John Paul II's, i.e., "Mother Church" conservative and controlling policies. It is generally recognized that Cardinal Ratzinger was for more than 20 years the second most powerful man in the Vatican after the Pope, and over those 20 years he was in the news frequently because of his strict, conservative views on some controversial Moon matters: homosexual relationships, abortion, contraception, sexual abuse of children by priests, the role of women in the Church, and Liberation Theology (the "Church of the Poor").
